Columnar English Oak
This columnar oak is the standard for columnar oaks. It has a strong leader and dense, upright branching that is not pruned. It is deep green leaves attract nesting birds. This oak does not produce any appreciably different color in the Fall, but it retains its leaves over the winter, providing shelter to wildlife and privacy as well as windbreak. It is best placed in a sunny and sheltered location. It is fast growing for an oak and can live to be 150 years or older.

Preferred Site
Full sun. Tolerates all soil types and pH levels, but likes moist deep soil best. Highly tolerant of urban pollution. A sheltered location is preferred.
Maintenance Notes
Prune in winter after coldest days passed. Pruning is not usually needed, however. Needs a sheltered location and mulching as in PEI it is on the edge of its viability.
