Serviceberry
Large shrub or small multi-stemmed tree that often branches 1.5m -2m above ground. A hardy native plants that even thrives on sea shore. Pleasant smooth grey bark. White flowers produce sweet, dark blue berries that are loved by the birds. Spectacular Fall red, yellow and crimson colors. It will grow suckers so needs to be kept in check or left to create a dense multi-stemmed tree. Long lived at 40 years.

Preferred Site
Full sun or partial shade. Tolerant of wide range of soils, including wet soils, but prefers slightly acidic soil types. Tolerates cold, wind, salt and urban conditions.
Maintenance Notes
Prune in late winter after coldest days passed. Amelanchier leavis is the tree form of this species.
