White Birch

This is a stately native tree with fine green foliage, bright white bark and golden-yellow Fall display. It is a low maintenance tree that only needs to be kept in moist soil and mulched, so it will remain healthy and able to resist the bronze birch borer and leaf miner. It is very cold, wind and salt hardy and can live to 120 years.

Preferred Site
Full sun. Average to moist soil is preferred, dry sites must be avoided. Tolerant of range of pH, cold, salt, wind and urban conditions.

Maintenance Notes
Prune in late summer once leaves have fully formed. Prune birch while young and then avoid pruning unless absolutely necessary. Mulch to keep it moist. River birch has more pest resistance.
